This 3-day desert tour from Fes to Merzouga takes you through the scenic landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains, charming Berber towns, lush cedar forests, and the spectacular Sahara Desert. Along the way, you will visit Ifrane, Azrou, Midelt, Erfoud, and the beautiful Ziz Valley.
The highlight of the journey is the magical experience in the Erg Chebbi dunes, where you will enjoy a camel trek, witness unforgettable sunsets and sunrises, and spend a night in a traditional desert camp with Berber music and dinner under the stars.
You will also explore the desert by 4×4 vehicle, visit nomad families, discover Gnawa music in Khamlia village, admire the black volcanic desert, and see the seasonal Yasmina Lake. This tour offers a perfect mix of adventure, culture, and nature, making it an ideal getaway for travelers seeking an authentic Sahara experience from Fes.
We will pick you up at your Riad or your hotel around 8:00 a.m.
Then we depart for Midelt through the mountains and the cedar forests of the middle Atlas.
We pass by Ifrane, a charming ski resort and Azrou, an important handicraft centre specializing cedar woodwork.
We arrive in Midelt for lunch.
At the afternoon, we will drive through Errachidia, Erfoud, and Rissani to finally arrive in Merzouga at a hotel into the desert.
You will have a camel trek into the beautiful Erg Chebbi dunes, where you will spend the evening in a bivouac (camp).
There you will enjoy a Berber dinner and sleep in desert tent.
After an early sunrise, we will ride the camels back to Merzouga and then go to the hotel to take a shower and eat breakfast.
After we will drive to explore the tiny villages around Erg Chebbi dunes such as ( Hassi, Labied, Merdani, Khamlia, and Mfiss ) on our way to Khamlia where we expect to meet locals showing their desert foxes.
We may also encounter desert reptiles and mammals along the way.
In Khamlia, known as the village of black people who were once slaves originating from Sudan, you will be welcomed with a cup of tea while enjoying their spiritual Gnawa music.
Leaving Khamlia our next stop is to enjoy the panoramic view of golden dunes near the Algerian border.
We may stop for picnic lunch under the shadow of a tree before continuing to visit a Nomad family, who are living in a Berber tent and taking care of their herds of cattle, goats and camels.
You will be introduced to family members and get to know about their way of life, while enjoying the taste of a nice cup of tea.
Next, we will visit the site of some black volcanic rocks.
Continuing on, we will stop for the panoramic view near Yasmina lake, where we will see the dunes and the nearby lake (springtime).
Afterwards, we will return back to Merzouga, for dinner and accommodation in a traditional hotel.
After breakfast in the hotel in Merzouga we’ll start our tour back to Fes. We will pass through Erfoud, a town famous for its fossils.
Then we will travel through the Middle Atlas Mountains, visiting Ziz Valley, Midelt. and Zaida Berber villages.
In Azrou we will stop where the wild monkeys are for a visit. Next we will passing through Ifrane and then arrive back to Fes.
